Resolve Branch Divergence: Sync 'release' with 'develop'

We are currently experiencing a synchronisation gap between our develop (default) and release branches. Although the standard workflow intends for these branches to be identical after a release cycle, the release branch is currently showing as being "ahead" of develop by several commits. I want to know the best strategy for solving this
