I resolved this by moving my domain servers back from Cloudflare to GoDaddy, reconfiguring again, establishing that the site worked, and then back to Cloudflare. |

Body
I have a site that has gone into infinite top level 301 redirect. The DNS configuration is exactly the same as 4 other pages sites I have (except of course for the domain name). Today I tried multiple different types of configurations with plenty of browser cache clearing and CDN cache clearing (I use Cloudflare). I also tried disabling and re-enabling GitHub pages, going private and public again, and accessing the site from multiple browsers and devices ... all to no avail. The site did work two days ago and I do not recall making any DNS changes until today when I tried to fix things.
Currently all my other sites work with Cloudflare flattening:
CNAME anywhichway.github.io
CNAME www
I have reverted to this configuration for nerd-editor, but I have also tried the top level A record approach with all the IP addresses for GitHub.
The site does work if I turn Pages off and just goto the non-custom domain site.
The project is https://github.com/anywhichway/nerd-editor/?target=https://github.com.
