We obviously can't do this in Svelte 5. I really don't think we would want to do this in 6 either. I'm not sure there is a specific timeline in which we'd want to do this.

Can you provide some context. Is it simply not wanting to remote APIs quickly? Or are there other considerations?

What about marking it as deprecated?

Async Svelte is experimental, and because it introduces some minor breaking changes, it can be moved to stable API only in Svelte 6. So, it makes no sense to deprecate #await before it. And there seems to be no special reason to remove it right away in Svelte 6 instead of allowing people to incrementally migrate their code.

Also, async <svelte:boundary> not really equal to #await:

1. boundary catches any error;
2. boundary doesn't switch back to the pending state (at least for now);
3. on rejected promise, boundary requires a "manual" reset, while #await will automatically render the next promise;
4. in case of using all three branches, I find #await more esthetical.

Personally I would like to deprecate these in 6.0 for removal in 7.0
